New Year – New News

New Year – New Features

2012 will be a year of the New NEW throughout the club;  the BLC Clubrooms will get a facelift along with the website and facebook page. The committee also has some great plans to continue to develop our club as a great family friendly venue to stay at after the games.

Big things are coming for BLC in 2012

We will be creating a Kids Zone upstairs at the clubrooms – so the kids can stay entertained while the parents enjoy the company of team mates and club members after the games.

We are also sourcing new bar furniture and high tables to make the club rooms more comfortable for the players post game – and the spectators on the balcony during the game. On the men’s side of the ball we will be getting new uniforms for State League and Division 2, along with a full range of merchandise to compliment last years successful hoodie sales.

The first of the web upgrades will be the new monthly feature on the Foreigner Files. Check out the first installment on our young Laxers (Max Rowse, Dan and Matty Shields) abroad, and if you have an old member you want to hear more about let us know and we will track them down!

It has been a while between updates, but we have a mountain of information for you! The full rundown is below – or the impatient can click on the links to get there sooner.

As you can see from above the committee has been very busy over the off-season putting a lot of plans in place for what will prove to be a big year for the BLC both on and off the field. From a committee point of view we have a lot of familiar faces and a few new ones helping out – for a full list of the committee including contacts click here.

Congratulations –

To Adam Sopp, and Thomas Graham on their selection to the Aussie U19 Team. The boys have big year of training in front of them, and we wish them all the best for the tournament, which is to be held in Turku Finland.

We will be checking in with boys throughout the lead up to the Tournament to see how their preparations are progressing.

Renovation – Rescue Phase 2

The completion of the clubs renovations will commence in the next week or two, which will the kitchen renovated and the installation of the long awaited balcony to the front of the clubrooms. This comes at a fantastic time for the club as we will be able to showcase our facilities to the WA Lacrosse public when we host this years LacrosseWA finals.

As part of our contribution to the renovations the club will be taking over the renovations of the changerooms, so for any plumbers, cabinet makers and carpenters we will looking for your assistance soon.

One Club – One big family

On the topic of assistance I want to sincerely thank all of the members of the BLC family for your kind donations to Stacey Swadling and her family. The support from the club has been overwhelming with a large amount of furniture and cash donated to help support the family get back on their feet.

Particular thanks to Sue Thompson and Trudy Savage for coordinating much of the donation efforts, and to Fred and Family for rallying all of the Ellenbrook community and dropping off a massive supply of donations.

Lastly special mention to Frenchie and the whole Jorre de St Jorre family for their donations of furniture, and time in transporting the donations from the club.

Moving onto more positive club news, there is a lot happening over the next couple of weeks.

Help – Wanted

February 11 and 12

It wouldn’t be an update without calling for assistance and this time its Lacrosse not just BLC needs help.

LacrosseWA has secured a booth and interactive display at the World Sports EXPO. The EXPO is a great opportunity for us to promote both Lacrosse and the club. You can find all the details here – please let the association know if you can help out. Benefit of volunteering is free entry to the expo and a chance to have a look around some of the great exhibits.

Your Club Needs you too!

The Club is also looking to source from volunteers for a couple of Sub-Committees. the first is the Social Committee – we had some great functions last year and want to keep that trend rolling on with fresh ideas and new members. If you want to get involved in the Social Committee get in touch with the head social guru Shane Taylor.

BLC – FOC.

What is the BLC -FOC I hear you say read on to find out-

2012 is  BLC’s turn to host the LacrosseWA finals – and we want to make sure they are like the Sydney Olympics (the best of all time and highly profitable) as such we want to get a finals organising committee (FOC) up and running as soon as possible.

We have provisional approval to also host the Women’s Grand Finals which will be a great spectacle and an opportunity to bring the best Mens and Womens Lacrosse teams together to display their skills at the same venue on the same day for the first time.

If you are able to help out please let us know through the comments section below – or email Glenn Morley
